Thank you to all those companies that replied to the ESA statistics questionnaire. We are still awaiting some replies, and three organisations are unable to provide such statistics, but we have enough of a picture to average the results for these three to create a view which is reasonably solid.

The full results will be amalgamated and sent out to all members via a separate note in much more detail in mid-March once we have discussed the project at the ESA Executive Committee meeting on the 6th/7th March.

The ESA does not represent all manufacturers in Europe engaged in the production of sealing devices and there are some issues associated with gathering statistics of this nature. However, the exercise objective was to provide statistics which provide an idea of the scope and size of the ESA. The total sales revenue of the members is in excess of €2bn employing 11,000 with approximately 400 different sales, manufacturing and distributing locations in Europe. The average number of countries that members exported to outside of Europe is approximately 35 with quite a number exporting to 50 plus countries.

Once we have the base line we’ll update the website in the “About the ESA” menu drop down to provide more scope to our activities profile. We will repeat the process every 3 to 5 years to monitor trends and changes in the sealing industry and provide feedback.

Thank you to all those that participated and particularly to the larger member organisations for coordinating their responses across multiple countries, it was much appreciated.
