ESA Annual General Meeting 2016

We are pleased to confirm that this years Annual General Meeting will be held between the 17th and the 19th May at the Atlantic Congress Hotel near Dusseldorf airport, 20 mins by Taxi. There will be Divisional meetings on the Tuesday and Thursday together with updates on all manner of subjects on the Wednesday.

You can find a timetable for the event at the Annual General Meeting 2016 webpage. We also have a CEO lunch on the Wednesday at a local restaurant nearby and dinner in the evening at a Coal Mine. Yes, true, a little strange perhaps but this one is also a Unesco World Heritage Centre and we will have a guided tour of the site and eat there in one of the restaurants. We have coaches arranged, leaving the hotel at 6.00pm.

The links to the various web sites are below and more importantly, so is the hotel's booking link and information. The chairman of each division will produce their agendas nearer the time and as soon as I have them all I will circulate and post in the new members area of the web site. If you need the password for the members area then contact me directly.

The City

Essen is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. With a population of approx. 550.000 people it is the 9th largest City in Germany, the central city of the northern part of the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan area and seat to several of the region's authorities.

At the onset of industrialization the city became one of Germany's most important coal and steel centers, especially through the Krupp family iron works. Up to the 1970s, Essen attracted workers from all over the country and was the 5th-largest city in Germany between 1929 and 1988, peaking at more than 730,000 people in 1962.

Following the region-wide decline of heavy industry in the last decades of the 20th century, the city has seen the development of a strong tertiary sector. Notable accomplishments in recent years include the title of European Capital of Culture on behalf of the whole Ruhr area in 2010 and the selection as the European Green Capital for 2017.

Today, Essen is home to some of the largest German corporations (in terms of revenue generated), including RWE, ThyssenKrupp, ALDI Nord, HOCHTIEF, Schenker, Evonik, E.ON and Brenntag. No other City in Germany is seat to more Top 50 companies than Essen.
