From the AGM 2016 in Essen

The 2016 ESA AGM took place in mid May and Essen proved to be an ideal location. Not as glamorous as Venice in 2015 but given the current difficult trading conditions it was thought appropriate to keep the location central and business like. Our gratitude was extended to Simone Wilson of IDT for helping to make the meeting a success and her support throughout.

In total 38 member companies from around Europe and 112 people attended over the course of the 3 days where 8 scheduled meetings were held. As well as the individual Divisional meetings there were presentations from David Mitchell, ESA Standards and Legislation Director, Henri Azibert, Technical Director of the Fluid Sealing Association (USA), Jasna Suhadolc from Virtua PR (Slovenia), ESA media agency and two Guest speakers; Emily Ho from the BHR Group who gave an overview of the group’s activities and Susan Michaelis who gave a fascinating insight into cabin air contamination from jet engines. Two new organisations attended the AGM and I am now pleased to report that they have now both joined as members of the ESA.

The evening meal was held at the Zollverein Coking Plant which is a UNESCO world heritage site. There was a tour of the site accompanied by a buffet dinner in the inner workings of the coking plant.

It was good to see almost 50 CEO’s and business leaders attend the CEO’s lunch on the Wednesday where despite the difficult surroundings to present, Emily Ho managed to provide an insight into the activities of the BHR group.

Elections were held for one Executive Committee position at the General meeting and I am pleased to report that Simone Wilson from IDT was elected to replace Michael Werner of Teadit who retires from the Industry and the ESA. An award was presented to Michael who has worked with the ESA for nearly 2 decades. In addition to this an award was presented to Rainer Zeuss, SGL Group for their contribution in 2015.

The date and venue of the next AGM is to be held in Barcelona 16/17/18th May 2017.

All minutes and presentations are held in the Members area. If you need the password (members only) please email
