Message from FSA

The FSA continues a focused path towards being the leading trade association in the Americas that is recognized and accepted as a subject matter expert and technical leader that advocates and influences environmental compliance to create and raise standards in technology, safety, quality, and best practices for sealing devices.  We continue to grow our relationships with HI and the VMA, and in addition we have developed partnerships with Valve World Americas, Fugitive Emissions Summit, and Pump Summit Americas; all of which directly support our new strategy and strengthen our position as a leading trade association.
Government affairs activities continue to increase with regards to support of the associations mission and new strategic plan. Environmental compliance and WTO negotiations are still taking center stage, however the scope is starting to increase outside of the main base of United States and into Canada where activity is increasing with regards to the development of new emissions standards. The Committee is actively participating in the WTO environmental goods negotiations in conjunction with the ESA and CSA (China Seals Association) as well as working with technical director, Henri Azibert, to provide an FSA comments to the EPA rulemaking on methane emissions. The FSA is focused on these activities given the market impact both of these efforts will have on the fluid sealing industry and is repositioning itself to become an aggressive advocate for sealing device technology with public policy makers.
In support of these efforts, the Marketing Committee is working to proactively promote these efforts through social media as well as develop training materials on the subject of reducing fugitive emissions. This is an area where we again can provide subject matter expert opinion and advocate on behalf of our member companies. More information on this area will follow in 2016, but it is clear that this committee will continue to play a leading role within the association for the coming years.
The initiative introduced at the fall meeting to help promote member company activity and to showcase FSA experts in action at key events that include our collective customers continues to grow in strength. From its inauguration at the fall meeting, to members at the recent American Petroleum Institute (API) meeting helping develop next generation industry standards and most recently at the PowerGen show in Las Vegas where there was a very high degree of member company participation as well as camaraderie around being a member of this fabulous leading industry association. What’s next? Our members will be celebrating the fact that they Love The FSA at AHR Expo in January followed by many other key venues in 2016…stay tuned!
Looking into 2016, and in support of the above, the FSA will execute a more formalized Public Relations program. This new program is designed to help provide a more structured channel for the voice and activities of the organization, and help better craft our message in order to capture our target audience and increase recognition and credibility for the association. This could be one of the more important initiatives we introduce in the coming year as we will be clearly focusing our attention on pushing the FSA firmly into the public eye.
In closing; “Execution of our new strategic plan is going great and 2016 promises to be year of significant importance for the FSA and its member companies”, said Ian Baynes, Strategic Planning Committee chair. “We set the bar high with the new strategy and our plan to execute some of the larger elements in 2015 and early 2016. The results we are seeing clearly show that the teams, Government Affairs, Marketing, and Strategic Planning, have stepped up to the plate to supported the effort. We still have a ways to go, but the progress to date has been fabulous. It shows what we can achieve as an association when we put our collective efforts to work.”
