Message from Mike Shorts, FSA President

The FSA continues its active engagement in advocacy for the proper use of fluid sealing and containment devices. On June 6, several FSA members with operations in Canada formed a delegation and visited the Canadian Trade Delegation in Ottawa regarding their position on the next round of WTO Environmental Goods negotiations. The effort was to help strengthen the understanding of the negotiators of the magnitude of the fluid sealing and containment device industry in Canada and the positive impact that support of the Environmental Goods Agreement would have on export development opportunities.

Also on the 6th of June the same team met with key individuals with Environment and Climate Change Canada in regards to the upcoming proposed ruling for methane reductions in Canada stemming from March’s meeting between Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau and US President Obama indicating that Canada would commit to reducing methane emissions by 40-45% below 2012 levels by 2025. This group was very responsive to the depth of knowledge from within the FSA and seemed eager to establish a relationship to help guide their policy making decisions.

Education activities kept pace with other strategic initiatives since the last update with a Short Course being given at the Fugitive Emissions Summit held in Houston, TX on June 13. Ron Frisard from A.W. Chesterton presented a 2.5 hour course on Valve Installation: Best Practices for Fugitive Emissions Service and Mike Shorts from Triangle Fluid Controls presented a 2 hour course on Flange Sealing Installation: Best Practices. The attendance at this event was great and the FSA is looking forward to providing technical expertise and courses at this bi-annual event in the future.
