Industrial Valve Summit is a great success

The inaugural Industrial Valve Summit which took place in Bergamo, Italy on 27th and 28th May 2015 proved to be a very popular event with over 5,700 attending the 6,000 m2 exhibition and more than 350 delegates taking part in the associated technical conference. The event was very strongly supported by the Italian Valve Industry with many valve manufacturers and flow control specialists amongst over 140 exhibitors.

One of the most important of the 5 conference themes was ‘Valve Sealing Performance’ in which the European Sealing Association and several member companies took a very active part. This group of 4 sessions covering ‘Sealing materials’, ‘Fugitive emissions and new trends in stem packing design’ and ‘Testing Procedures and testing devices’ was co-chaired by Jean Michel Rivereau – Head of Piping, Valves & Vessels Department of Total Exploration & Production Technologies, and ESA Technical Director David Edwin-Scott. 16 papers were presented in these sessions, 9 of them from ESA member companies.

Of particular interest was a paper by Hubert Lejeune of CETIM on the current status of the joint ESA/FSA Packings Division sponsored project ‘Tool development for design and optimization of valve packings’. The Elastomeric and Polymeric Seals Division was also well represented with two member companies presenting work on low temperature testing of elastomers, confirming the current importance of this topic in the Oil & Gas industry and the relevance of our ongoing project to develop a realistic test procedure for low temperature operating limits.

In confirmation of the success of the event the second Industrial Valve Summit has already been announced. IVS 2017 will take place at the same venue on May 24th and 25th 2017 and is expected to be an even bigger event.
