News from Mechanical Seals Division

Mechanical Seals Division is working on updates of EHEDG DOC 25 on Design of mechanical seals and aseptic applications, preparing a Position Paper on opened questions by EC Regulation No 1935/2004, Article 16 and has prepared the ESA Position Statement on ATEX Directive 94/9/EC.

1) EHEDG
 EHEDG DOC 25 on Design of mechanical seals and aseptic applications (published 2002) will be updated. The related working group, including ESA members, met first time on 03.02.2016, for a kick-off meeting. The time target for fullfilling the task is March, 2017.

2) EC 1935
The Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004, Article 16 - Declaration of compliance for materials and articles intended to come into contact with food - opened a lot of question in the industry. The Mechanical Seal Division of ESA is undertaking an effort to formulate a Position Paper giving answers, following the approach of VDMA.

3) ATEX
The ESA Position Statement on ATEX Directive 94/9/EC and its applicability to Mechanical Seals has recently been updated(version 01.11.2015). The aim was to align to ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU being effective from 20.04.2016 onwards. In this context the following paper is of interest: "European Commission: Guidance Document on the ATEX Directive Transition from 94/9/EC to 2014/34/EU".
