Packing Division news

The Packing Division had their biannual meeting in Mira, Italy on May 19th. The event was a great opportunity for our members to catch up with colleagues to discuss the current affairs involving our business.

The participants got an update of the technical working groups on the various projects that are currently going on. David Edwin Scott gave an update on the Test procedure for packing applications project that will be the first ever ESA project that will result in an official EN standard; a great accomplishment!

The presentation on the pump packing friction study project was done in the general meeting by Henri Azibert and David Edwin Scott. The project proves that compression packing does not consume more energy than a mechanical seal per se when used as a pump shaft seal. A general and important misconception that was dismissed by the results of this still ongoing project.

Further a number of great ideas for technical articles were generated for publishing. These articles provide great insights into all the aspects concerning compression packings and their applications so keep looking out for these in ValveWorld magazine.
