Packings Division News

The packing division is making progress on a number of projects. The division is creating an end user training to train end users on the correct use of packings. Various members have contributed to this project by creating a section. Currently some professional 3D animations are being produced by an external company to make this a highly professional training tool. This is going to be a very useful tool that can be used by all the members and it will raise the profile of compression packings in general as a sealing solution for rotating equipment and valves.

A working group met on June 27th in Manchester to start the work on the development of a standard for compression packings. The only standard in existence is an outdated British standard. There is a need in the market to create a document that give guidelines on the minimal quality requirements to both packing buyers as packing manufactures. A good basis was laid which will be the basis for continued work. The standard will give guidelines on the composition of packings, dimensional requirements of packing, packaging and marking requirements and other guidelines.
