Packings Division News, Nov. 2016

The Compression Packing Division met on October 12th at the W.L. Gore premises in Putzbrunn near Munich, Germany. The progress on the following projects was discussed:

Pump Packing Friction Study

At the Pump Summit in Düsseldorf at the end of November a paper about the current results of the pump packing friction study will be presented by the Packing Division Technical Director David Edwin-Scott in collaboration with the FSA Technical Director Henri Azibert.

Valve Packing Characterisation

The Valve packing characterisation project managed by CETIM, France is progressing. Initially expanded graphite and pure PTFE packings have been tested. The Packings Division will select a new packing type to be tested next year.

Packings Training Presentation

Work on the packings training is progressing. 3 D animations have been finalised. The possibility to add a voice over to the presentation will be investigated.

Specification for Fibrous Gland Packings

A second draft for the Fibrous Gland Packing Specification was presented and comments from members were discussed. An amended third draft will be issued next year.
