Careers Development

Following the discussion at the AGM and in line with the ESA strategy discussion the ESA started work on the development of the Careers Area of the ESA website. The first meeting of the careers team will be the 12th August using the online meeting format.

Packings Division News

The packing division is making progress on a number of projects. The division is creating an end user training to train end users on the correct use of packings. Various members have contributed to this project by creating a section. Currently some professional 3D animations are being produced by an external company to make this a highly professional training tool. This is going to be a very useful tool that can be used by all the members and it will raise the profile of compression packings in general as a sealing solution for rotating equipment and valves.

Elastomeric & Polymeric Seals News

The division has continued its collaborative work on developing a robust method for assessing sealing capability at low temperature. A wider range of elastomer types have been prepared and testing has been carried out by various division members. This data is now being added to that obtained earlier in the year.

Mechanical Seals News

The mechanical seal division have defined and created a position statement regarding EC1935:2004 and published it on the website. The statement provides guidance for mechanical seal manufacturers and users working within the Food industry helping avoid unnecessary and sometimes costly testing of material not identified within the standard. Staying with the Food Industry, 3 ESA representatives are now involved with in the EHEDG working group to provide input for the first draft of the new document in 2017.

We have continued to work on a new Low Temperature test methodology designed to give seal specifiers better knowledge other than the material property testing often specified for Low temperature seal performance. This has involved a collaborative approach to designing the method and testing it.
