Website Careers Area Development

The ESA is to develop a new area within the Web site initially called Careers. The aim will be to attract suitably qualified graduates and engineers to the Sealing industry.  Focussing initially on highlighting those members that have Graduate Training programmes, the Careers area will develop to form links with Universities in Europe. A further possible development of this project is the posting of CV’s from individuals looking for work and the free advertising of positions for ESA Member companies.

Standards and Legislation activity update

The joint effort between ESA and FSA has continued in 2016 to ensure Sealing Devices would be included in the EGA. The EGA representatives have met in Geneva in both March and April and are working on the text of the agreement.  Negotiations continue and we await News of the historic signing.

ESA Market Statistics

The results of latest market analysis for Flange Gaskets and Packing are in. Sadly, because of concerns over Anti Trust laws in the USA affecting some of our larger members it will no longer be possible to continue this work. The ESA has asked each divisional chairman to ask their members at the AGM what type of reports or information would be useful to members help make decisions within their organisations.

The Fluid Sealing Association recently had their Spring Meeting in Atlanta, GA where the focus was on the technical activities within the Association. I am happy to report that the FSA is extremely active on various technical and educational agendas and that all Divisions have some significant projects on the go to continue to drive the mission of the FSA to be the leading subject matter experts on fluid sealing and containment devices.

Packings Division News

The Technical taskforce of the Packing Division met on April 11th to discuss current subjects. CETIM joined the meeting and presented the progress on the valve packing characterization project and the pump friction study. Good progress has been made on both of these projects and CETIM will be present at the AGM in Essen.

The new article written for Valve World was released in the May issue of Valve World. Following Part 1, in which Randy Wacker discussed how flange forces directly affect gasket stresses, Part 2 discusses the correct flange forces considerations, the two most common sources of uncontrolled forces and what can be done to ensure they’re maintained with  acceptable values.

The ESA at the Fluid Sealing 2016 Conference

In March the ESA supported the 23rd BHR Group Sealing Conference at the Hilton Hotel in Manchester, UK. As well as a presentation and update on the ESA from Mark Neal, Andrew Douglas from the James Walker Group presented a paper on the Low Temperature test work and research that the Elastomeric and Polymeric division has been undertaking. The conference lasted for 3 days and was very well attended by a number of organisations not just in Europe but from around the world.
